The OSSI-015-002-C Stanchion is a professional-grade tripod-mounted holder from Optical Surveying Systems Inc. that enables single-person surveying by securely stabilizing Wave Staff, XB Rod, and Cable Staff leveling rods on unstable terrain like mud, sand, gravel, or grass.

Setup & Usage Guide

Setup Tripod & Stanchion

Extend tripod legs and set firmly over survey point. Attach the OSSI-015-002-C stanchion head to the tripod's 5/8"-11 thread and hand-tighten securely.

Prepare the Rod

Extend your Wave Staff, XB Rod, or Cable Staff to required height. Attach rod foot/shoe if conditions are very soft to prevent sinking.

Mount Rod in Stanchion

Loosen clamp, insert rod into guide, slide down until rod foot contacts ground. Critical: Rod must bear its own weight on ground, NOT hang from stanchion. Tighten clamp to hold rod plumb.

Take Measurement

Instrument person sights the rod through level or total station. Stanchion ensures steady reading even in adverse conditions.

Move to Next Point

Loosen clamp, lift rod, move tripod-and-stanchion setup to next point. Rod and stanchion move independently for efficiency.
